Yukon Permafrost Network

By Sarah Laxton - Posted on 28 April 2010

Attn: Yukon permafrost researchers

I would like to introduce the Yukon Permafrost Knowledge Network, and inquire about your interest in becoming a member. This informal network is being created to facilitate and encourage cooperative relationships between those active in permafrost related work and research activities.

The goals of the Network are to encourage communication and to provide a forum for researchers, government, and industry to discuss developments related to the field of permafrost in the Yukon. The Network will also be a place where potential new sources of Yukon permafrost data can be identified that would be suitable for adding to the Yukon permafrost database to be hosted on the YGS website starting spring 2011.

 Anticipated Network activities:

§         List members with contact information & permafrost interests

§         Start a Yukon Permafrost list serve

§         Send out update emails as appropriate

§         Request for brief summer field project updates

§         Open door to drop by YGS permafrost office

§         Offer to assist for a day or two in the field to gain working knowledge of research

§         Welcome suggestions or comments on the future development of Permafrost Knowledge Network

Members will include a cross section of people and organizations from government, industry, academia, and Yukon communities.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions about the Network.

 Sincerely,

Sarah Laxton
