Update on PYRN activities at NICOP

Dear PYRN members, we are all excited to welcome you at the upcoming Ninth International Conference on Permafrost. Please read attentively the following paragraphs to make the most of your NICOP experience:
1. PYRN Awards
Several PYRN awards will be granted at NICOP, all with prize money and a plaque. It will still be possible to sign up in person at NICOP, but only until before the first sessions start on Sunday afternoon.
The ceremony will take place on Thursday, July 3, 2008 1500–1615.
2. PYRN Social
Thanks to several generous benefactors, PYRN will be hosting an exclusive social event on the 1st of July at the UAF Wood Center(http://nicop.org/pdfs/Session_mapB.pdf) Pub from 18:00-22:00. Access is free to all PYRN members but you need to register on the PYRN website to attend. Please do register on this page (http://pyrn.ways.org/pyrn-meeting-and-social-event-attendance). 3. PYRN Mentor's Panel
We are excited to host a panel on Careers in Permafrost: Research and Trajectories from IGY to IPY (1957–2007)” (http://pyrn.ways.org/newsblog/pyrn-mentors-panel-nicop). The panel will be held on July 1st from 16:30 to 17:30 in the Salisbury Theater (http://nicop.org/pdfs/Session_mapB.pdf). - Charles Harris, Cardiff University, UK
- Jonas Akerman, Lund University, Sweden
- Don Hayley, EBA Engineering Consultants, Canada (to be confirmed)
5. PYRN Calendar
PYRN, in collaboration with the USPA (http://uspermafrost.org/), has led an effort to compile a sumptuous calendar on permafrost. We will be offering this calendar at NICOP. More information on the calendar will be soon available on the PYRN website (http://pyrn.ways.org).
