Симпозиум охватит широкий круг проблем криологии Земли. Предполагается заслушать доклады с результатами исследований последних лет по всем аспектам гляциологической науки. Для каждого устного доклада, вместе с дискуссией, отводится около 20 минут. Предполагаются также стендовые доклады.

Fairbanks was chosen as the site of the fifth conference because of its relative accessibility; the expertise in permafrost, glacial, and polar research at the University of Alaska Fairbanks; and its proximity to many examples of cold-climate geomorphology, such as pingos, ice wedges, and patterned ground, which will provide many interesting destinations for the mid-conference field trip (as they did for the Third and Ninth International Conferences on Permafrost, which were also held in Fairbanks in 1983 and 2008 respectively).

We invite scientists, managers, students as well as representatives of governments, media and funding organizations, who have researched or are interested in cryospheric sciences, climate change, hydrology, ecology, and sociology to share research results and to discuss about the sustainable development in Central Asia. The official language of the symposium will be English.

This international symposium aims to:
-establish a baseline for the condition and trend of Central Asia's cryosphere;

This upcoming international forum in April 2012 will be a valuable opportunity to demonstrate and apply the latest findings of polar research on a broad range of topics from oceans and sea ice, to permafrost, vegetation and wildlife, to changes in Arctic communities and beyond. The From Knowledge to Action Conference will present the highlights of IPY 2007-2008 and the recent polar science assessments that are advancing our knowledge of the polar regions.

Since ISOPE-1992, the annual ISOPE conferences have been the world’s largest technical conferences of its kind with peer-reviewed papers.
