Job description: 

Specific job purpose
To carry out scientific research and development to incorporate physical and biogeochemical permafrost processes into the JULES land surface model and Hadley Centre climate/earth system models.

Specific job responsibilities
* To collaborate with the UK and international scientific community to identify physical and biogeochemical processes required for modelling climate impacts on permafrost.
* To assess current JULES capability for simulating permafrost regions and develop and implement additional required processes.
* Evaluate the improved JULES model using observational data.
* Perform JULES simulations to identify permafrost response to climate change.
* Perform coupled climate simulations with permafrost processes in HadGEM2-ES to quantify the role of permafrost as an earth system feedback.
* Presentation of scientific research in peer-reviewed journals and at scientific meetings and conferences.
