IPA-PYRN award to be granted during the International Conference "Cryogenic
processes of polar regions" (conference website).
The PYRN award is awarded annually at permafrost conferences and is funded in part

time to check the details on the award on: http://www.awi-potsdam.de/pyrn/pyrn_award.htm

  3. The Association of Polar Early Career Scientists
PYRN is a partner of the Association of Polar Early Career Scientists
(APECS), which aims at raising the profile of polar science by bringing
together early career scientists and engineers and involving them in
the decision-making process during the IPY and beyond. You can register
    with APECS here: http://www.kent.edu/polar

  4. Permafrost press review
This month, a nice article in Nature on the uncertainties on the future of Arctic permafrost: “A world melting from the top down” and an article in the VECO newsletter here
A number of other contributions spread in the news:
    -
    Drilling permafrost on Mars
    - Microbiology in Antarctic permafrost soils
    - Climbers face more risks as Alps crumble
    - Permafrost thaw study gives good prognosis

  5. Permafrost pictures and wallpapers
If you are a gifted photographer and have good pictures of permafrost
features or fieldwork in permafrost terrain, please send them to us. We
want to select the best permafrost pictures to change the pictures on
the PYRN homepage and create wallpapers to distribute to our members
and to other research communities. The pictures that we’ll publish will
be released under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs

has now its own website: http://www.tspnorway.com/

    - The IPA project “Arctic Coastal Dynamics” has released its 7th newsletter. You can find it here
    - The SCANNET newsletter is also available online with a beautiful
picture taken during the PYRN workshop in Abisko on the cover.

  7. Events
Two events in September and October related to permafrost:
    a. The international workshop “Arctic coastal zones at risk” jointly organized by the International Permafrost Association, LOICZ, IASC, AMAP and IHDP which focuses on the impacts of climate change on permafrost coasts, will be held in Tromso, Norway from 1st to the 3rd of October 2007
    b. The second SEDIBUD Workshop
(Working Group on Sediment Budgets in Cold Environments): High-Latitude
and High-Altitude Cold Environments will be held in Abisko, Sweden,
from the 15th to the 19th of September 2007. More info on the project website: http://www.geomorph.org/wg/wgsb.html
