The report from the PYRN kick-off meeting for national representatives, held in
Abisko, Sweden on the 22-24 of February is now available on the PYRN website
(http://www.awi-potsdam.de/pyrn/abisko.htm). The
main objectives of the meeting were to address the growing size of PYRN and review
its management structure. Feedback on the report contents is more than welcome.

The Permafrost Young Researchers Network (PYRN) is pleased to feature the second
IPA-PYRN award to be granted during the International Conference "Cryogenic
processes of polar regions" ( conference website).
The PYRN award is awarded annually at permafrost conferences and is funded in part
by the International Permafrost Association and in part by the conference organizers
when funds are available. To date, the IPA and the local organizers have committed
600$ for three awards. If you are planning on attending the conference, please take

Moscow State University is organizing a field course entitled "Permafrost and
Periglacial Geomorphology of Western Siberia and Western Taymyr, Enisey River"
which will be held on July 25 – August 10, 2007. There are 2 to 3 slots remaining for
foreign students. The costs to foreign participants are $ 2 000 – 2 100 + ticket to
Moscow + visa. The course is an incredible opportunity to get acquainted with
Russian permfrost landscape and science. You can check out the website for more

The World Environment Day 2007 will be held in Tromso, Norway on 4-5 June 2007,
with the conference, "Melting Ice - A Hot Topic?" The conference is planned as a
meeting between decision makers and scientists and will also address the media and
