- PYRN kick-off meeting for national representatives in Abisko
PYRN held its kick-off meeting in Abisko, Sweden on the 22-24 of February. The
main objectives of the meeting were to address the growing size of PYRN and review
its management structure. A report from the meeting will be soon made available on
the PYRN website. - Special issue on permafrost – Global and Planetary Change
Global and Planetary Change has released a special issue on climate change impacts
on mountain glaciers and permafrost. More info here:

Two wonderful articles on permafrost this month in both Science news and Science
Careers. The article in Science Careers ( here) focuses on the Portuguese efforts in the
IPY. Permafrost is alsofeatured on the cover of Science news with a very
comprehensive story called “Not-so-Perma frost” ( here) - An arctic geology summer in Svalbard
The Geology Department at The University Centre in Svalbard, UNIS, celebrates the
International Polar Year by offering a full summer package of 4 credited courses at
master/Ph.D. level in cryosphere and Quaternary research, from 18 June to 1 October.
Course activities are linked to several IPY projects in Svalbard. More details here - Events
The 37th Annual International Arctic Workshop will be held in Skaftafell, Iceland on
2-5 May 2007, deadline for registration: March 31st ( here)
The international conference Landform - structure, evolution, process control to be
held in Bonn in –July 2007 has extended its registration deadline ( here ) - Jobs and Fellowships
The University of Ferrara in Italy advertises a PhD position to study Antarctic
permafrost ( here)
