  1. IPA and IPY
The International Permafrost Association has just published a press
release for the IPY available on the IPY website
    (http://www.ipy.org/index.php?/ipy/detail/international_permafrost_associ...).
If you want to know more about the permafrost activities taking place
during the IPY please check the IPA website: http://www.geo.uio.no/IPA/
  2. PYRN-Bib
    http://www.awi-potsdam.de/pyrn/pyrnbib.htm
This is a reminder for PYRN members to submit their info to PYRN-Bib.
PYRN-Bib is a truly important part of the legacy the permafrost
community should bring to the International Polar Year. It is crucial
you take a few seconds to register your thesis or ones you came across!
Let other people (including senior researchers) know about this
initiative. The more entries in the bibliography the better!
If you have enquiries about PYRN-Bib, contact Guido Grosse (ggrosse@gi.alaska.edu)
  3. Two IPY postdoctoral positions for permafrost research
Two IPY post.doc. positions in permafrost and periglacial geomorphology
within the International Polar Year, IPY project ‘Permafrost
Observatory Project: A Contribution to the Thermal State of Permafrost
in Norway and Svalbard’ (TSP NORWAY) available for 2 years. The
post.docs will preferably start 1 April 2007 or as soon as possible
    thereafter.
The TSP NORWAY project is part of the international IPY cluster project
‘Permafrost Observatory Project: A Contribution to the Thermal State of
Permafrost’. The main aim of the TSP NORWAY project is to measure and
model the permafrost distribution in Norway and Svalbard, including its
thermal state, thickness and influence on periglacial geomorphological
    processes.
More info on the PYRN website (http://www.awi-potsdam.de/pyrn/jobs.htm)
  4. Frozen Ground
The 2006 issue of Frozen Ground, the annual publication of the IPA is
available on the IPY website with reports on national activities and an
    emphasis on IPY projects (http://www.geo.uio.no/IPA/FG30.pdf)
  5. CliC newsletter
The latest issue of Ice and Climate News, the newsletter from CliC
(Climate and Cryosphere) is now available and features an article about
PYRN: You can find it on the PYRN website
    (http://www.awi-potsdam.de/pyrn/documents/clic.pdf)
  6. Events
Several events have been added to the PYRN calendar
    (http://www.awi-potsdam.de/pyrn/events.htm). The Arctic Science Summit
Week to be held in a month in the USA will feature a special program
for young researchers, including a roundtable on the coordination of
young researchers activities during the IPY. In September, The 7 th
international symposium on permafrost engineering will take place in
Chita, Russia. For all these events and others, check the PYRN website.
  7. Jobs and Fellowships
This month, you’ll find in the jobs section several senior positions,
including a lecturer position on carbon and nutrient cycling in
permafrost or glacial environments at the university of Bristol.
  8. Remember that PYRN’s success and pertinence is dependant on your
contribution! If you notice any information relevant to the community
and not listed on the website, report it to the coordinator of your
country (www.awi-potsdam.de/pyrn/members.htm). And don’t forget to fill
    in your info on PYRN-Bib!

Have a great week!
