The conference will give an overview of the effects of climate change to permafrost in the Alps. The PermaNET (Permafrost Long-Term Monitoring Network) project will be presented.

 

The event will be the start meeting of the PermaNET project. The public session in the morning will give an overview of the observed effects of climate changes to permafrost in different parts of the Alps (Italy, France, Austria and Swiss). Practical approaches for dealing with the related slope instabilities and natural hazards will be presented and the needs for monitoring activities will be highlighted. In the closing session, an outlook on the planned activities within the PermaNET project and on the expected results will be given.
