Welcome on board - New PYRN Germany Group!
We want to let you know that a NEW PYRN GERMANY-Group is alive and we are looking for people who are interested in joining the group.
Until now, we are 27 diplomands, master students, Phd students and postdocs working in permafrost science. We all met at the AK Permafrost Meeting in Würzburg at the 5-6th of November 2009. We plan a PYRN-D-meeting next autumn in Hamburg including a workshop where we can discuss our research problems and exchange.
To be or not to be ... ice wedges on Svalbard
After spending much time at my ice wedges in Adventdalen on Svalbard 78 ° N in winter time 07/08 and 09, I finally could get to know them this summer! To be honest, the only thing I have really seen before from them was a little of their surface topography (covered in snow) and some of their cracks, but enough for me to fall in love...
5 weeks permafrost nonstop!

Ice-Wedge Cracks on Svalbard – WOW!
Since 9 months I am living on Svalbard now, I saw the sun leaving and I saw the sun coming back but what I saw last week, I have never observed before!!!
