AAA-08: Permafrost on Warming Planet
Convener: Jerry Brown, International Permafrost Association
Permafrost regions cover 24% of the ice-free land in both hemispheres
and major portions of the inner continental shelves. This symposium
focuses on the present state of global permafrost and the responses of
permafrost terrains to a warming climate. Topics include soil and
active layer dynamics, thermal state of permafrost, thermokarst
development, surface instabilities and hazards, coastal and subsea
processes, carbon storage and fluxes, mountain permafrost in non polar
regions, and engineering designs to mitigate for warming. Both invited
and unsolicited reports are included.
